The digestive system breaks down food into nutrients the body can use for energy, growth, and repair. Digestion begins in the mouth, continues as food travels through the stomach and small intestine where nutrients are absorbed, and finishes in the large intestine, which removes remaining waste from the body.
The nervous system, made up of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves throughout the body, acts as the body's command center. It sends and receives electrical signals at incredible speed, allowing the body to sense the environment, control movement, and manage everything from breathing to thinking.
These two systems, while very different, communicate constantly โ nerves in the digestive tract signal the brain when you're hungry or full, and the brain sends signals back that help regulate digestion, showing just how connected the body's systems really are.
